Chapter 4 Direction
The objective for the air resource, which is to be managed as a part of the Forest ecosystem, is to maintain or improve National Forest air quality by preventing significant deterioration from Forest activities or other sources.
Standards and Guidelines
Forest-wide Standards and Guidelines for Air address:
- Air resource inventory needs
- Planning for the maintenance of air quality
- Coordination with the State of Alaska
Changes in the 2008 Plan
The Forest Plan puts more emphasis on emerging climate change issues (ROD p. 7).
The best course of action today is continued management of the Tongass for resiliency in the face of uncertain but anticipated change (ROD p. 19).
More detail was added to the definition of air resource inventory needs.
