Beach and Estuary Fringe
Chapter 4 Direction
The objectives are to:
- maintain the ecological integrity of beach and estuary fringe forested habitat
- provide a relatively continuous forested corridor linking terrestrial landscapes
- provide a variety of recreation opportunities, normally of a Primitive or Semi-Primitive nature, and retain the scenic quality
- provide important habitats, corridors, and connectivity for eagles, goshawks, deer, marten, and other wildlife associated with maritime-influenced habitat
- contribute to the maintenance of the ecological integrity of biologically rich tidal and intertidal estuary zones
Standards and Guidelines
Forest-wide Standards and Guidelines for Beach and Estuary Fringe address:
- Coordination with the Alaska Coastal Zone Management Program
- Facility developments that require in-water access - permitted
- Reasonable access to mining claims - permitted
- Timber harvest - generally restricted
- Road construction - discouraged
- Wildlife habitat restoration - encouraged
Changes in the 2008 Plan
Clarification was added to the limitations on personal use of timber within the Beach and Estuary Fringe.
