Chapter 4 Direction
Objective for fish habitat management is to maintain or restore the natural range and frequency of aquatic habitat conditions on the Tongass National Forest to sustain the diversity and production of fish and other freshwater organisms.

The Forest Plan provides guidance for fish habitat management including:

- Fish stream classification
- Management Activities Affecting Fish
- Fish Habitat Restoration and Improvement
- Fish Habitat Maintenance
- Threatened, Endangered and Sensitive Fish Species
Changes in the 2008 Plan
- Clarified the direction for fish stream value classification
- Moved the direction on channel types and process groups to Appendix D
- Moved the Threatened, Endangered, and Sensitive Fish Species Standards and Guidelines to this section
- Edited wording and updated many areas based on new literature and the updated Aquatic Habitat Management Handbook
